HEMMINGS—Brett LaSala is no stranger to setting drag racing records at Sick Week, an annual drag-and-drive competition that attracted America’s quickest cars and drivers to sunny Florida for five days of cruising and racing. This year, Lasala beat his own radial-tire record by blasting down the quarter-mile drag strip in 6.263-seconds at 227.19 miles-per-hour while behind the wheel of his neon green fifth-generation 2.0 Ford Mustang.
Lasala ramped up his “Snot Rocket” Mustang to take the Sick Week radial-tire speed record last season with a 6.52-second performance at 215 miles-per-hour. When 2024 rolled around, it was clear that the turbocharged pony car wasn’t tapped out yet, but a battle was to be had before he could safely say the record was still his. Competitor Josh Davis, piloting Devin Vanderhoof’s Mustang, beat Lasala’s 2023 record on the first day of the competition with a 6.41-second run, but Davis’ celebrations were quickly cut short. LaSala was right on his heels in the lineup and stole the radial-tire drag-and-drive record back just minutes later.
