RACE PAGES—This year Brett LaSala was flying into the 7s with his 13 Mustang GT with an off-the- shelf single turbo CPR kit, a system that served him well from the 9s down to the 7s. But he wanted to something fully custom and unique, so he proceeded to re-build the car and plans on finishing the season with a new setup on his Gotta Have It Green S197. Known as the Snot Rocket, the car carried LaSala to a quarter-mile time of 8.08 at 173 mph back in December of 2017, and then further still as it ran 7.93 at 176 mph not long after with its 7687 turbocharger. After four years with the single snail, though, LaSala knew it was time for a change. I wanted to build a custom kit to my specs, noted LaSala, who enlisted the help of his friend, Jim Braun, to make the idea more than just a pipe dream. Jim did all the fabricating and made it a lot more wild than a production bolt-on turbo kit. Taking advantage of the downtime due to the typical Florida summer heat and rain, the guys began working on the project in June.
